A beautiful fall morning on top of the mountain in Dolly Sods, WV.
I arrived before the light, the sky so clear, the stars shining brightly, unobstructed by the city lights. The cold air against my face acted as a refreshing wake up.
As the sun rose in the east, the beauty that is Dolly Sods in the Fall was slowly revealed through the thick fog.

This photograph was from my first trip to Colorado in May 2004. While much different than my beloved state of West Virginia, I must have said "WOW" a million times. Everywhere I looked, nature revealed it's beauty.
I never did make it to Aspen proper. From the highway, I saw the hillside covered with these beautiful Aspens. I got off at the first exit and spent the rest of the day there.
This beautiful barn sits on the outskirts of Seneca Rocks, WV on US Route 33.I had passed it many times always thinking that I needed to stop and visit.
On this October, 2004 day, I was on my way home from a weekend of shooting and, once again, I passed it. After driving two or three miles down the road, I had to turn around and go back because the light this day was so beautiful. I ended up "visiting" for more than an hour.
I visited Aspen, Colorado in May of 2004. Just as I entered Aspen, I saw row upon row of these Aspens alongside the road. This is a site that you don't see too often in West Virginia, so I had to take the first exit to get closer to these beautiful trees.
I've always loved photographs of Aspens standing slim and tall turning the hillside into an abstract painting.
I added the color to signify the beauty of nature. The reds represent the "blood letting" that is taking place in our vanishing forests.
The fall of 2004 in West Virginia mountains was an experience in sensory overload.
I traveled the areas of Spruce Knob, Canaan, Seneca Rocks, Dolly Sods for nine straight weekends never tiring of the peace and beauty I found on each trip.

I'll never forget the peace I experienced this beautiful December evening as the sun slowly set. There wasn't a soul in site as I just sat by a group of Cottonwood trees, the cold wind gently blowing, the sands stretching for as far as one could see.
It felt wonderful to be alive and to be able to experience this beautiful area of our country.
